Making an urban transport service more user centered and inclusive

INCLUSION – towards accessible and inclusive mobility, is a European project launched in 2017 and funded by the European Union through Horizon 2020 research and innovation program. The aim of the project is to design new solutions to meet the needs of users of urban public transport services in seven countries in Europe.

Busitalia and MemEx, Italian partners in the project, have decided to focus their pilot action in the city of Florence on centering redesign on the needs of users of foreign origin: both long-term residents, and those that recently arrived in the city to work or visit.

We supported them by creating a co-design process to identify and resolve some critical issues regarding inclusion, access and use of public transport together with users and experts, working on the main physical and digital touchpoints of the service: the bus stops, the buses themselves and the service dedicated apps.

The insights and recommendations emerged from our co-design user workshops and activities are being used to redesign some the key service touchpoints, including the new local transport app.
